SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2 SOUPER BOWL BLITZ
Something new… we are doing a canned food drive for the Daily Bread Food Pantry. Sign up for a shift and help us collect at Stop and Shop and Price Chopper. We need folks to pass out flyers to shoppers as they enter the stores. Meet at EAST at 9:30 am and carpool to Putnam. Home by 1:00 PM.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 3
SPECIAL WORSHIP for SOUPER/SUPER SUNDAY
Come to worship at 10:00 am. Our guest preacher will be Da Vita McAllister, the new Assoicaite Conference Minister for Youth and Young adults! Special music will be provided by Will Kirk. Stay for a few minutes after and help us tally our Souper Bowl results (We have to count all those cans!)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 9 ITALIAN DINNER
5:30 TO 7:00 PM at the Hill Church.
Invite your family and neighbors for a delicious meal. We need everyone to help to make this a success. You can sell tickets, set up tables, decorate, prep food, serve, or clean up. Servers should wear black and white and come at 5:00 PM.
[SYG workers get a free meal at 7:30 PM and Yes, you can ask a friend to work with you!]
Money raised will help cover the 2008 SYG Budget.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17 WINTER HIKE
Dress warmly and come prepared for some outdoor fun! It could be sledding or a winter hike, depending on conditions. We’ll build a bonfire and warm up with hot cocoa. Bring a friend and meet at East Woodstock at 11:30.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24 SYG SUNDAY NIGHT
7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Hill Church
Catch up together after winter vacation. We’ll gather in the kitchen and fix some snacks. Pass the word to your friends and offer a ride tonight.

Compassion Camp 08

Mark your Calendar and SAVE the DATES:
Compassion Camp 2008 will be held on the week of July 14-18.

All students who have completed grades 6-9 are invited to join us for a week of fun, friends and service learning. This is a day program (9:00 am to 3:00 PM) for youth who want to help neighbors in need. We will use the church as a home base and take different field trip each day to put faith in action. Save the dates and look for the registration form coming soon on the church website.

We will be gathering a staff of volunteers, including CITs and counselors so contact Debby at 928-3215 if you can help out. Our first planning meeting will be on February 13 at 10:00 am.

After the Night watch program at the Catehdral we took the subway to Ground Zero, visited St. Paul's chapel and paused to pray for peace, had lunch and viewed the Statue of Liberty from the South Street Seaport, toured the Tenement Museum on the East Side, had dinner in China Town and looked in the shops on Canal Street. We had a vertical tour of the Cathedral on Saturday night with views of the Manhattan skyline from the roof top. On Sunday morning we drove to Riverside Church and celebrated the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. in worship.

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING

Note: Cash donations are also welcome. Please make checks payable to “Senior High Youth Group” so we can send one check to Daily Bread.

All items will be donated to DAILY BREAD FOOD PANTRY on Grove Street in Putnam. Daily Bread is an Emergency Food Pantry that serves clients in Putnam, Pomfret and Woodstock. The pantry relies on donations from community groups and distributed over $75,000 worth of food last year.

The Souper Bowl http://www.souperbowl.org is a nation wide effort for hunger relief. In 2007, over 14,000 church and groups participated and generated over 8 million dollars.
Please support the youth of our church in this effort to “love our neighbors” by making your donation before February 3.
